VG-Port has an EcoCompass environmental program that is externally audited and certified.
EcoCompass is a Finnish environmental system suitable for all industries, which is tailored to suit the organization’s operations. The environmental impact survey ensures that environmental issues are taken into account in all matters related to the company’s operations and at every stage of the production process. The environmental program defines concrete, annually monitored goals aimed at minimizing the environmental load.
In VG-Port’s operations, the most significant environmental impacts are related to the fuel of the work machines and vehicles, the consumption of water and electricity, and waste water. The aim is to reduce environmental impacts by increasing the proportion of shore-based electricity on ships and enabling the discharge of waste water from ships into the sewers ashore, increasing the use of renewable electricity where possible, mapping the possibility of using stormwater for e.g. watering cargo, switching fuel to renewable alternatives or electric/hybrid equipment where possible, and monitoring stormwater concentrations.
Our oil collection operations are ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) certified.
